Celebrate IDAHOT with HBTQ-LU!

On Wednesday 17 May 2017, Lund University will fly the rainbow-flags again to draw attention to the violence and discrimination that LGBTQI people are exposed to in all countries. International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, IDAHOT, was created in 2004 to draw the attention of policymakers, opinion leaders, social movements, media and the general public to the violence and discrimination experienced by LGBTQI people all over the world.

The date, May 17, was chosen to commemorate the World Health Organization’s decision in 1990 to declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder. IDAHOT represents an annual landmark to draw attention to the alarming situation faced by lesbian, gay, bisexuals, transgender, intersex people and all those who do not conform to majority sexual and gender norms. It is not a centralised campaign, but rather a moment that everyone can take advantage of to take action. IDAHOT is now celebrated in more than 130 countries, including 37 where same-sex acts are illegal.

The programme for IDAHOT at Lund University is open to anyone who wants to learn more about LGBTIQ. All activities are free of charge.
